About circular breathing

Circular breathing is a therapeutic technique, that allows you to enter into a process where that which is unconscious in you may come into the light - to be seen and reviewed. It enables you to be both the experiencer as the observer simultaneously. When we consciously breathe with this awareness, we make it possible to resolve, integrate and heal previously unresolved tensions, emotions  or issues within ourselves. This frees up our natural life energy, bringing greater aliveness and joy, and feeling spacious in body and mind.

This workshop In this workshop, we will come together to explore the possibilities this particular technique. Circular breathing is a soft and gentle and can, therefore, be done for a longer period of time, ranging from half an hour to 45 minutes. We will start with some gentle movement and pranayama to warm up and relax the body and mind. After that we will join in a circle for a longer breathing session, which is done lying on the back. We remove the pauses between the in- and exhalation and the ex- and inhalation. Our breathing then becomes circular, without any intermissions. Both the in- and out-breath are done through the mouth. The inhalation is full and deep, the exhalation is completely relaxed.

Rolandjan, Sjoerd and Nanneke will walk around to guide you (and sometimes use pressure points) to allow for the breath to become fuller and deeper.

About the teachers

After having done the same breath training and being involved in yoga and other transformative practices, Rolandjan, Nanneke en Sjoerd decided to team up. Sharing what they love most is just more fun doing it together. Bringing a bedding of safety, lightness and sincerity; in their view the best mixture for a deep inner plunge. After doing a series of breath circles at Delight Yoga together and having done circles on their own and on various retreats it is now time to organize a session at The White Door Studio. You might already have been introduced with this breath technique in one of Sjoerd classes, a great foundation for a deeper dive into the breath, and into yourself.

A note on wellbeing  Please note that this breathing practice is not advisable for people with epilepsy or psychiatric history, or people currently undergoing treatment with psychiatric drugs or therapy. The intensity of the practices may release blockages in the body that can trigger intense sensations and emotions and shake up your being. Pregnant women are welcome and will be given modified instructions. Please do inform the teachers about your pregnancy, even (or especially) while in the first trimester.

Also, please make sure to come on an empty stomach!

Sjoerd Dragtsma

After a flirt with yoga in his twenties, it were the Shamanic traditions from the Amazon that led Sjoerd back to the path of yoga in 2014. This time he was naturally and inevitably drawn into the yogic fire. These sacred plant traditions Sjoerd experienced offered him profound glimpses about the meaning of Life and how we are conditioned to limit ourselves because of the evolutionary need to stay ‘safe and secure’. More insight and embodiment came when he underwent a 500-hour ‘Delight Yoga Teacher Training’ with Katiza Satya Ivulic and Kevin Sahaj in 2016-2018.Sjoerd’s classes are also influenced by his shamanic path and have an emphasis on the meditative and healing aspects of yoga.He invites everyone to give space to whatever arises. And to lovingly witness these energy’s and start seeing them for what they truly are, just by simply ‘be’.
